Camping at Mission Trails Regional Park

We went camping Labor Day weekend with three other families at Lake Kumeyaay just north of San Diego.

The kids played lots of games like baseball and bocci ball, and got along really well.

We spent a lot of time at the lake, which was right by our camp site. Liam and Jason both brought fishing poles.

On a walk around the lake, we saw two men catching frogs. The kids really wanted to try it, so we bought a couple of frog lures and spent the rest of the day catching, petting, and releasing frogs.

A couple of times, the frog lure, which looks like a smaller frog (we didn’t know that frogs were cannibals!) got caught in the plants. Bill was brave and went in after it.

The kids played games in the campsite and had a great time despite a big range in ages.

Willow discovered that if you get close to the lake, you can sink all the way up to your booty in squelchy mud. She was upset at first but then came to peace with it.

Greg had the most amazing apparatus for cooking over the campfire!

And the kids were all so happy to eat every meal outside.

Liam and Willow really enjoyed playing with little Olivia.

And Bill had a ton of help with packing up the tent. We went home tired and happy.
