NYC for the win

After breakfast, we headed out first thing to the Spyscape museum.

The museum was really cool! It had an area where we played games, some more mental and some more physical. We worked together as a team for all of them.

The other part was a more traditional museum, with exhibits on deception, encryption, surveillance, etc. They had replicas and an actual enigma machine, and a replica of the Bombe that was created to defeat it. There were tons of hands on activities, including one where we tried to detect who was lying, another where we encrypted and decrypted messages, and lots of exhibits about past spying and hacking incidents.

There was a section about hactivism and anonymous, which was really interesting.

My favorite section had security camera feeds all around, and missions to find specific things in the camera feeds.

The ambiance of the place was really fun.

Even the hallway to the bathroom was cool. You can see how excited Bill was!

After the spy museum, we went to Ellen’s Stardust Cafe. We went twice the last time we were in New York, and everyone was really excited to go again. The weight staff are all Broadway hopefuls, and they take turns singing.

Our waitress was really nice. We talked to her a bunch, and she sang a song from Six for us. She told us that she has had five callbacks for the show!

We were only planning on seeing one Broadway show on this visit, but then we walked by this sign:

Christopher Jackson is the actor who played Washington in the original cast of Hamilton. We’re huge fans, and Willow once wrote him a letter about how his voice is like being wrapped in a warm blanket on a freezing cold day. We have an early flight tomorrow, but we decided that we had to see him live. We stopped by the box office for last minute discount tickets, and when we told the man working inside that we were there just to see Christopher Jackson, he made a call and found out that he would be out tonight. It was such a missed opportunity!

After a little down time at the hotel, we went to dinner. Willow really wanted to go back to the same Chinese restaurant, but we felt compelled to try something new, since we were surrounded by restaurants of all kinds. We found a fantastic family owned Turkish restaurant called Turco Mediterranean Grill. They make their own bread, which was the best thing I have ever dipped in hummus.

We got everything packed for our 5 am departure in the morning, and finished the day with Italian desserts from Angelina’s bakery. We ride at dawn!
